Angela Evelyn Bassett is an American actor from the United States. She is known for her roles in film and television from the mid-80s onwards, she's been awarded numerous awards including two Golden Globe Awards and sixteen NAACP Image Awards in addition to nominations for two Academy Awards and seven Primetime Emmy Awards. Bassett was brought up by her aunt in Winston-Salem North Carolina. Her birthplace was and grew up at home in New York New York. Bassett was able to move with her younger sister to St. Petersburg Florida at five years old to be near their mother and father, who had separated from her father. Bassett was inspired to become an actor after watching the production Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, starring James Earl Jones. She went to Yale University New Haven Connecticut and graduated with a bachelor's degree (1980) on African American studies and a master's degree (1983) from the Yale School of Drama. She dated Courtney B. Vance, a fellow actress at Yale and they married in 1997. Qualification: B.A. Degree in African-American Studies in 1980.
